Scott Sorrels has served the Scouting Movement on the world, national and local level for more than fifty years.
On the world level, Scott serves as the Co-Chair for the 24th World Scout Jamboree, a gathering of approximately 50,000 youth from more than 200 nations and territories that are members of the World Organization of Scouting Movement (WOSM). WOSM serves more than forty million youth worldwide, both male and female. The Jamboree will be held July 22-August 2, 2019 at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia, USA. A world jamboree is held every four years at various locations around the globe. The 2019 World Scout Jamboree will be hosted by Scouts Canada, Scouts Mexico, and the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).
On a national level, Scott is a member of the 62-person National Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America, and has served for more than eight years as National Commissioner Service Chair, reporting to National Commissioner Charles Dahlquist. In that role, he provides leadership to the National Commissioner Service Task Force, the four Regional Commissioners in the United States, and more than 40,000 Commissioners who provide unit service in order to ensure that the BSA provides a quality, life-changing experience to our youth participants.
Scott has held numerous leadership positions at the unit, council, area, and regional levels, including National Vice-Chair of the Venturing Committee, the teenage coed program, Venturing Chair for the Southern Region of the United States, and Area President for Georgia and Alabama.
On a local level, Scott has served as past council president and current chair of the trustees for the Northeast Georgia Council, and presently serves on the executive boards of the Atlanta Area and the Northeast Georgia councils.
As a youth, Scott was a national youth officer in the Exploring program, the BSA’s coed teenage career exploration program. An Eagle Scout and Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow, he has earned the Silver Buffalo, Silver Antelope and Silver Beaver awards, the Venturing leadership award, the Spurgeon Award, and the District Award of Merit.
